F/S Anderson was wounded 13 October 1942 on ops to Kiel:

Shortly after commencing approach to Kiel the Halifax was hit by flak and badly damaged. At 00.50hrs, whilst in the process of landing, the pilot undershot the runway and the aircraft crashed injuring all on board.  James Anderson died on 17 October whilst being treated at York Military Hospital. Although visibility was poor at the time of the landing, the cause of the crash was attributed to the general inexperience of the pilot.
